Turkey vultures

My daughter moved to DeLand, Florida (a small town located about an hour north of Orlando) last summer and one of the things I enjoy most about her new house is the small man made lake right behind it. I usually sit out on her back porch during the day because there are all kinds of birds attracted to the water and it's fun to watch them and take photos. One day a group of turkey vultures landed just on the other side of the water. I have never seen turkey vultures sunning themselves like this and I was a able to zoom in on them before they flew off.

Linking to Saturday's Critters, Camera Critters and The Bird D'Pot.

they have beautiful wig spreads, we see them everywhere here but I have only seen their wings spread in the sky, never on the ground. they are so ugly they are cute to me. and we need them, they keep our streets clean.. great shots of then sunning

...they are very pretty, but they are very important for the environment.

I live near Deland and love this part of the state. We sure see a lot of these big birds around! Your daughter probably sees a nice variety on the water!

Hello,

They do look huge with their wing spread open. They are important birds to have around. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend.

They're written off by some as ugly, but I find them quite distinctive.

That's quite a wing span there Lois, super shots, it reminded me of the cormorants, they spread their wings like this to dry in the sun also ✨

What a great location ....turkey vultures are a little bit better looking than the ones we see here, which are just plain black with bald heads. When they spread their wings they remind me of witches flying.

Great series of pictures of a truly wonderful bird. I have a sweat shirt with a hand painted picture of a Turkey Vulture on it.
