March Theme Day: Green

There is a reason they call Ireland the Emerald Isle and it is on full display in these photos I took last summer on my vacation. This was at one of our stops as we drove around the The Ring of Kerry. I zoomed in on Loher Stone Fort, a recently reconstructed ringfort, also known as a cashel, in the distance. You can see how tiny it looks right in the center of my first photo. The ringfort dates back to early Christian times around the 9th Century. It would have been built as a defended farmstead and the circular outer walls are over 2 metres high. The inner part is made up of a large round house and a smaller rectangular house.

The first day of the month is Theme Day in the City Daily Photo community and the theme for this month is "Green". To see other CDP members' interpretations of the theme, be sure to visit the City Daily Photo Theme Day gallery here.

At first glance I knew we weren't looking at Florida! Beautiful Ireland...what a interesting place to live...as once our ancestors may have in the ringfort.

Good choice. It doesn't get much greener than Ireland.

Fantastic photos of the Emerald Isle. (I hope one day to get to visit there.) The ring fort is fascinating. Great stonework.

Glorious, wonderful greens!! So beautiful! And the ring fort is so cool! It looks in pretty good condition. I love round buildings. Our church is round, hat way the devil can't corner you, ha ha! But it really is round.
