Brussels sprouts

While shopping for vegetables in a local grocery store, I noticed they were selling Brussels sprouts and had never seen them sold like this before. I didn't even know they grew on stalks! Today I am thankful for fresh vegetables.

Live music

One of my favorite local restaurants has live music as entertainment in the evenings. This is the sign over their stage.

Walker Library

The historic Walker Library is located downtown and served as Tallahassee’s first library from 1903 to 1956. Since then it has housed various organizations, but it is currently unoccupied due to construction of the newer buildings you see surrounding it. Precautions were taken by the developer of the new buildings to make sure the 116 year old, two story building was not damaged. The Walker Library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in June 1976. It was named after Florida Governor David Shelby Walker, who served from 1865-1868 and later helped establish the library.

Monday Mural

I love it when I see electrical boxes dressed up with murals. This one is located downtown.

Who are you looking at?

I saw this little blue heron looking for a snack at the edge of a lake near my house.

A walk in the park

The view ahead of me as I was walking around Cascades Park near downtown. Today I am thankful for our mild winter weather here in north Florida.

Pet fountain

This pet fountain is located near the sidewalk that goes around Lake Ella, a 12 acre area which also includes a park just north of downtown. The park is a popular place for dog walking, so there are several pet fountains located here that get used often, especially on hot summer days.

Remember The Alamo

While spending some of the holidays with family in Austin, Texas, we drove down to San Antonio one day and toured The Alamo. The last time I was there was when I was on a family vacation as a kid and I remember thinking then how small it looked compared to all of the larger buildings in the city. The history of The Alamo is fascinating and you can read more about it here. We were able to go inside, but no photos were allowed of the interior.

The more that you read

This mural can be seen on the wall as you enter the preschool in Texas owned by my sister and her son (my nephew) and his wife. It is a beautiful school and they are getting ready to open another one soon as well as adding more classrooms onto this one. I'm very proud of them!

Walking the pig

I'm used to seeing people walking their dog, but I had never seen anyone walking their pig before. He kept his nose to the ground when I was taking his photo and also did a lot of snorting.

Backyard buddies

Watching the birds through the window of my back door is one of my favorite things to do. Needless to say, these little cuties also keep my cat entertained which is why I hung this feeder so close to my house.

I'm finally back from my longer than expected blogging break. Happy to say I made it through my cataract surgery just fine and my daughter is on the mend from her surgery, so I'm ready to enjoy my blog again. Thanks for all of your wonderful comments.

Photo of the Year

I picked this photo not because I thought it was the best photo I posted all year, but because it is my favorite. It was a random one I took very quickly through the window of the bus I was riding in while touring the Ring of Kerry in Ireland last summer. I didn't realize until later that the two sheep I saw on the side of the road were actually a family of three. The adults were protecting the little lamb standing in between them. Sheep are free to roam around on their own in this area and are often seen close to or even in the middle of the road.

I'm hoping to get back to regular posting soon, but right now I'm taking care of my daughter who had surgery last week and is having a little harder time recovering due to a small unexpected complication. She's doing great though and should be back to full speed soon. My cataract surgery last month also went very well. Thank you all for your well wishes and Happy New Year!
