Durty Nelly's

While visiting the village of Bunratty, Ireland in County Clare, we ate lunch at the original Durty Nelly's, a 400 year old pub located right next to Bunratty Castle. The food was delicious and the legend of Nelly quite entertaining. You can read about her here. That is my empty seat facing the little table just to the right of the fireplace in my third photo. I will show photos of the castle next door tomorrow.

Linking to Monday Mural since I like the way their sign is hand painted on the side of their building.

Well, I never!! At first I thought you were HERE, so close to me. Because WE have a DURTY Nellys!! It is about a half hour away, spelled the same way and everything. I have never been inside, but word is they have delicious sandwiches and libations. So now I know the entire legend, after reading your link! Do you think it is mostly a legend? How strangely wonderful that you went far way to teach me something about right here at home. Now I really want to go there! This one looks very clean and nice. I like the plants and the yellow color. Ours looks considerably more seedy!

yet another great looking really really old building... I bet Ginnies in Va is not 400 years old.

How interesting! And I'm glad to know it had good food too. What was in your glass, clear liquid might well have been water...doesn't look like ale to me.

That looks like a perfect place for a meal in Ireland. It actually reminds me a place in Minneapolis that I used to go to whenever I was in town for work. They had good food too and all very Irish.

There's nothing quite like an Irish pub and this one looks to be a real classic. Four hundred years old?!? They must be doing something right.
