Taking a break
This duck was keeping one eye on me as I zoomed in to take its picture while it was resting under a cypress tree near a local pond. You can see the tree's cypress knees popping up out of the ground all around the duck. These knees are usually seen around cypress trees growing in swampy areas and their function is not known. Some theories are that they may help aerate the trees roots, create a barrier to catch sediment and reduce erosion, or help stabilize the tree in soft, muddy soil.
Update on my broken leg: It's been a little over 5 weeks since my injury and I'm still not walking. I go back to the doctor next week and hopefully will get a good report. I'm definitely getting tired of not being able to drive my car and spending most of my time in the house!

Hopefully you get a good report and will be out & about soon, Lois!
Good looking duck!
I hope so you will be able to walk a bit next week. I can imagine you get a bit bored of the homesitting.... A little while maby to get around a bit. Wish you all the best.
Be well soon! Lovely photo of a feathered friend.

I hope the doctor gives you good news. A distinctive looking bird.
Hello, cute capture of the duck! I hope you can get out and walk soon. Sending my get well wishes and hopes for a great report from your doctor.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
I've often wondered about the cypress trees. Sounds like good theories. Nice pic of the duck. Hope you get a good report from the doc and are able to get out of the house. I know how tiring it can be. Have a wonderful weekend.
I do hope you get some good news from the doctor. I would be going stir crazy if I had to stay put for along time.
Praying for your speedy recovery.
God bless you always.
That looks like what I call a Mucky Duck or Muscovy Duck. It's my understanding that those cypress knobs allow the tree to 'breathe'. I hope your leg is in great shape and that you can start training for the next Disney Marathon soon! :)
Sending you love!
Lovely to see your photograph.
Healing can sometimes take longer than we'd like ...
I do hope you get an encouraging report from your Doctor and that you will be able to get out and about more soon.
Thinking of you and sending my good wishes.
All the best Jan
Nicely captured :)
I would be so bored to death, that is a very long time to not go out or be able to walk, hope you are walking SOOON
Bem apanhado.

Sending you best wishes and hoping you'll be back out and about again soon!
Hope you have a speedy recovery and are mobile again very soon! Great picture of the duck.
Fingers crossed that you get good news from the doctor next week.
Oh Lois, I know you are tired of not walking and going places you want to. I've had three knee replacements and hated being stuck in the house, it's just not fun! I used to see a lot of cypress trees on a lake near an area I used to live in southern Illinois. The knees were always interesting. Take care and hang in there.
Good luck. I have problems with my feet and it drives me crazy because I love to walk and go places.
after 5 wks. of being housebound, I'd be stir crazy! Loved reading about the cypress tree...for the 'reason' I'd say all of the above. Loved the duck resting...a special one!
For this week, I send my thanks to you for sharing with us bird lovers at I'd Rather B Birdin'!
I've always thought the knees on those trees are so strange!! Hope your doc appointment goes very very very well and you are up and about real soon! I know you are eager to get outside and be making pictures again!
Great shot.
I hope you get good news from the doctor and get quite well very quickly.
Hugs
