These old radios were sitting next to our table while we were eating at a 1950's style diner on our vacation when we were in San Francisco a few months ago. The one in the first picture looks very similar to a radio my grandfather had sitting on his kitchen counter when I was a kid. My grandkids didn't even know what they were until I told them!

Yes! The same one looks like one my great grandfather had. Some of them must be worth a lot of money. How I wish I had kept mine!!!
These are certainly familiar to me and look much like the radios we used in the 40s. I think I would have liked that 1950's style diner. Glad that you're educating your grandkids!
I love beautiful old radios like this! I have a couple of them myself.
So the old saying could be changed to "A cat is a man's best friend!" So sweet!

They look very beautiful I think, the shapes and colours are so nice.
these old radios are just beautiful to me. i remember them, although we never owned one, but my relavives did. and it was hard to find a channel on those dials
That second one looks like one my grandfather had in his apartment. Pretty soon there will be a generation who has never seen a black and white TV or a record player.
Before transistors, imagine all those tubes! Fantastic find.
Not many alive today that remember those when they were the hot new thing
...my grandmother had one of the style in the second photo, but smaller. Everyday I'm amazed at the things my grandchildren don't know, but then again I don't know much of their things either. Tha Lois for sharing something from my past. I hope that your are healing!
Lois, fantastic finds. Thanks for sharing.
Fascinating photos and post of the vintage radios!

Isn't it funny that the kids didn't know what they were! ;-)
I remember a similar big radio when I was a kid. Amazing how much has changed in our lifetime.
They make me think of the radio my grandmother had.
The first one is similar to one that my parents had around the house.
I love stuff like that.
They look great.
My grandmother used to have one similar to the second one. They are beautiful and well made.
We didn't have one of these when I was growing up but they certainly look familiar.
Such classics. It's good someone thought to save them from disposal. - Margy
I love those old radios! My grandparents had some like these
Hmm, those look even older than I am!
Those were the good old days.
God bless.
What great photos! I remember them well and attribute my preference for radio to my early exposure to that media.
So nice to see these old radios.
All the best Jan
