Built in 1904, the Margaret W. Cotten House is located in the Calhoun Street Historic District near downtown and sits across the street from the Brokaw-McDougall House which I showed a couple of weeks ago here. The house is currently the home of the Florida Automobile Dealers Association.

It's wonderful! I have to share something funny...I have Virginia ancestors who were Cottens. When we lived there years ago, we tried to find the plantation place that had belonged to them. There was a small school building on the property. Well, we drove around so much, looking at this possible spot, and that one, that it became a joke. Every time my husband saw a tiny little run-down building for years afterward my husband would pipe up "It's the Cotton Place!" And there, you found an actual Cotton Place! :-)
A very stately house with a wonderful paint job. It made me instantly think of the Arizona Automobile Dealership Association which has a somewhat unusual and modern building here in Phoenix. I guess I should photograph it one of these days.
