Rogue azalea
The azaleas in my yard usually only bloom in the spring, but this one decided to be different and produce one lone bloom for the fall. I took this photo a couple of weeks ago, so it's gone now.

Cotten House
Built in 1904, the Margaret W. Cotten House is located in the Calhoun Street Historic District near downtown and sits across the street from the Brokaw-McDougall House which I showed a couple of weeks ago here. The house is currently the home of the Florida Automobile Dealers Association.

Pink dinosaur
Another whimsical mural I found on the wall of the same building as the mural I posted here. Again, it is partially obstructed by a fence and I am unsure of the artist.

Standing tall
I'm taking a blog break for the next week while I enjoy the Thanksgiving holidays with my grandkids. In the meantime, I will leave you with this funny picture I took with my iPhone of my 6 month old kitten Cecelia impersonating a meerkat. She didn't hold this pose for very long, so I had to be quick to get this shot!

Antique bricks
This pathway in Maclay Gardens State Park was created from antique bricks that were recycled from an old street in Tampa, Florida. The bricks were originally manufactured in different cities, but most of them came from a company called Westport Paving and Brick in Baltimore, Maryland which was founded in 1905. These bricks were so popular in the early 20th century that they were shipped to many cities for construction of streets and buildings. When automobiles became more prevalent, a smoother surface was needed for streets, so many of the bricks were removed and sold for other purposes like this beautiful pathway.

Brokaw-McDougall House
The Brokaw-MCDougall House is one of Tallahassee's most beautiful remaining antebellum homes. Construction was begun in 1856 and completed in 1860. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and currently is home to the offices of the Florida Department of State's Division of Cultural Affairs. You can read more about the history of this home here. You can view a photograph of the house taken in the year 1890 here.

Looking up
I couldn't get an unobstructed photo of this mural because of that fence, but I think it turned out good anyway. I saw it on the side of a building near downtown, but I am unsure of the artist.

Canaries
I was standing in line at the post office the other day when I kept hearing what I thought were birds in the room. When I got up to the counter, I asked about it and the lady showed me where the sounds were coming from. Someone was shipping a crate full of colorful canaries. I felt a little sorry for them, but they looked and sounded happy enough, so I hope they end up in good homes!

Break in the clouds
My grandkids and I noticed the sun peeking through this opening in the clouds at sunset one day when I was visiting them in Orlando. We were in my car and I didn't have my camera with me, so I pulled over and took this photo with my iPhone. I kind of liked how it turned out.

Metal chicken
I noticed this character hanging around outside of the restaurant I took my grandkids to last weekend when I was visiting them in Orlando. He didn't seem to mind me taking his picture.

Limo
As you can probably tell, this photo was not taken in Tallahassee. I found it in photos of my summer trip through Eastern Europe. I was walking around one afternoon in Warsaw, Poland and saw this limo parked on the street just daring me to take its picture. It was our first day there and I was extremely jet lagged which probably explains why I forgot about it. Anyway, I'm linking it to signs, signs.

Blowing in the wind
Spanish moss growing on the branches of the oak trees over one of the paths in Maclay Gardens State Park. I liked the way the long strands looked blowing in the wind that was coming off the lake. You can see what it looks like up close in the third shot, which I took while sitting in one of the lakeside pavilions in the park.

October Theme Day: Rock and Roll
Nothing says Rock and Roll to me like The Beatles. Here is a photo of my very first Beatles album which I received for my birthday when I was a pre-teenager back in the 60's. I was so proud of it that I wrote my name up there on the top. The second photo of Abbey Road Studios is a cell phone shot I took early one evening when I was in London a few years ago.
The first day of the month is Theme Day in the City Daily Photo community. This month's theme is Rock and Roll. To see other participants' take on the theme, visit the CDP Theme Day gallery here.
