Garden gate

Maclay Gardens is an 1,176 acre Florida State Park on the north side of Tallahassee. The property was originally purchased by Alfred B. Maclay and his wife Louise in 1923 as a winter home. Over the years they planted and maintained one of the most beautiful ornamental gardens in the state. Louise donated it to the state of Florida in 1953, nine years after her husband's death. These photos show the Secret Garden, a small area of the park dedicated to Louise.

Love the arch, the metal gate, the green growing on the bricks. just beautiful and so is the secret garden. those century plants are beautiful and also deadly. my son does yard work for extra money, a few years ago, a lady asked him to remove two big century plants from her yard. he made the misake of using a chain saw, not knowing the juice is poisonous, worse than poison ivy. it slung it all over him and he spent 2 days in hospital from it..

It's all gorgeous, Lois. Especially the gate. So the garden was the extension of her husband's vision. Hmmm. At least he wasn't in the legislature screwing things up!

Now that is what I'd call a beautiful legacy.

Like that first image best. It's as if the light was spilling out of the garden beyond.

So pretty! I would love to visit it someday.

I especially like the dedication .... she furthered her husband's vision and is being honored for that.

I would be honored to be remembered for something like that. Not a garden, or anything great or grand, but furthering my husband's vision. So sweet!

Blessings~
