Happy Halloween
I saw this sketchy looking guy lurking by a tree in one of the local pumpkin patches. He didn't seem to mind if I took his picture.

Psychedelic art
Another mural on the outside wall of the same nightclub where the Jimi Hendrix mural I posted last week is located. The artist is Jacob Cage.

Scarecrows in the gardens
Every year Maclay Gardens State Park hosts an event called "Scarecrows in the Gardens". Businesses, community groups, schools, families, and other groups are invited to join in by creating scarecrows for display in the gardens. Prizes are awarded too. These photos show a few of the entries from this year's event. In case you are curious about the second to the last photo, that entry was created by a local tree service.

Reflecting
Right next to the Secret Garden I showed yesterday in Maclay Gardens State Park is the Reflecting Pool. Lake Hall can be seen in the distance between the trees. This spot is a popular one for weddings and other events, in fact I have attended several weddings and a funeral here before.

Garden gate
Maclay Gardens is an 1,176 acre Florida State Park on the north side of Tallahassee. The property was originally purchased by Alfred B. Maclay and his wife Louise in 1923 as a winter home. Over the years they planted and maintained one of the most beautiful ornamental gardens in the state. Louise donated it to the state of Florida in 1953, nine years after her husband's death. These photos show the Secret Garden, a small area of the park dedicated to Louise.

Pumpkin patch
My youngest grandson and I had some fun at one of the local pumpkin patches a few days ago. I love the way they look in the late afternoon autumn sunlight. We saw a few unusual ones (especially that blue one in the first photo), but he ended up picking out two of the white ones and one traditional round orange one to use for a jack-o-lantern.

Jimi Hendrix
This mural is located on the outside wall of a local night club. The ladder was leaning up against it because there was some construction going on in the building when I took the photo. The mural is the work of Sarah Painter, a local artist and student at Florida State University majoring in studio art.

I took these photos this afternoon at Maclay Gardens State Park.

Clouds and pastries
Clouds gathering behind the Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church. I took these photos when I was attending their annual Greek Festival a couple of weeks ago. As you can see from the second shot, I went a little overboard on the Greek pastries. They lasted several days in my refrigerator though and were all delicious, especially that Baklava Cheesecake in the lower right corner.

Grim reminder
It's always sad to see one of these "ghost bike" memorials near the road because it means someone was killed in a bicycle accident nearby. The memorial is meant to serve as a reminder to be careful and look out for bicyclists when you are driving your car.

Hot
This past summer my oldest grandson spotted this sign along the highway and thought it might make a funny photo for my blog. I had forgotten all about it until I was going through my pictures and saw it this week. We wondered about it for several weeks until a new one appeared in its place advertising a local air conditioning repair service. I didn't even notice the moon was in the shot until I posted it!

College golf
The Seminole Golf Course and Club is the home of the Florida State University men's and women's golf teams. The course also serves as a learning laboratory for the University's Professional Golf Management Program and the building in the second photo houses offices, classrooms, a clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant. The course is also open to the public.
Note to Lowell: I could not pass this golf course without taking these photos just for you!

Steeple
This steeple belongs to the oldest public building in Tallahassee in continuous use. The First Presbyterian Church is located downtown and the building dates back to 1838. Below you can see a better view of the entire front of the church. If you are interested the church's history you can find out more at this link. To see a historic photo of the church from the 1800's, go here.

Faux window
I'm not sure what the story is on this, but I like it. I took this photo several months ago. At the time, the building seemed to be empty. I only noticed it because it is across the street from one of my favorite restaurants.

Do not block the alley
There are not too many alleys in downtown Tallahassee, but I found this one and it seems very well maintained. I like how you can see the beautiful brick in the wall of the old building on the left. It's easy to see that there must have originally been windows there at some time in the building's history.

Corner office
When I was downtown the other day, I noticed this bench near the Florida Capitol. It is next to the outdoor seating area of a restaurant that is frequented by lawmakers and lobbyists. The inscription reads: "Lynda Keever's 'Corner Office'. 18 years as Publisher of Florida Trend. Dedicated April 2, 2009". I thought it was a nice tribute. Florida Trend is a monthly magazine covering Florida business, industry, education and leisure. Lynda Keever was inducted into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame in 2001 and retired as publisher of the magazine in 2009.

Music at the lake
I always enjoy walking around Lake Ella, but when there is someone like this gentleman providing a little music, it makes it that much more enjoyable.

So many choices
This directional sign is sitting downtown near the Florida Capitol. As you can see, there are quite a few other places nearby too.

Cupola
I have always admired this cupola on top of what used to be the main post office downtown. The building was established by the WPA (Works Progress Administration) in 1935 and served as the post office until the mid-1970's. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Park Avenue Historic District in 1979. Today the building houses the United States Bankruptcy Courthouse for the Northern District of Florida.

Downtown Mural
This pretty mural is located outside a restaurant and hotel in downtown Tallahassee. Sadly I could not find any information about the artist or the mural, but I know it has been there for several years. I like how the columns are incorporated into the mural.
