I could not find any information about this old cannon I saw downtown. I walked all the way around it and there was no sign or plaque to explain what it was there for. I did notice that it is sort of pointed towards City Hall though.

I don't find canons particularly attractive as decorative objects, but you do see them quite often in "older" city centers. I sometimes wonder if they just couldn't move them!
You never know when you need a canon, at least there is one at hand...:)
Reminds me of the ones in Charleston
Very old looking so I assume City Hall doesn't feel threatened!
Hahaha I'm towards City Hall. Someone with a sense of humor. It looks like an old cannon they might have pulled up that was sunk in at one time from looking at it
Could you point it toward the guv's office and the Republican side of the state legislature? You would be doing Florida and the world a big favor!
It's a bit odd maybe that there is no sign telling why the cannon is there and where it came from. It doesn't look very threatening though.
It may have been a ship's cannon. Guess it outlasted the sign.
Maybe just a subtle warning?
There are a couple similar to this at a navy reserve facility here in the city, and another one up on Parliament Hill, though I think they've moved that one somewhere because of the work going on up there around the grounds.
Oh that's a really old cannon Lois, would be so interesting to know where it came from.. you did make me smile with your observations as to it's point of direction 😀😀
Wonder what it's doing there.
You don't have to worry that someone might steal it.:)
It's a fine old cannon though ...
All the best Jan
Ha ha! They'd better do right at those meetings ;>)
