“Unconquered” is located in front of the south entrance to Bobby Bowden Field at Doak S. Campbell Stadium on the Florida State University campus and was installed in 2003. The massive structure, including its granite-covered pedestal-base, stands approximately 31 feet from ground level to the tip of the spear, about the height of a three-story building. At sunset the night before each home football game, the spear is ignited and burns until sunrise on the morning after the game. The bronze sculpture was created by artist Fritz White and depicts a spear brandishing Seminole astride his rearing horse and was designed to capture the indomitable spirit of the Seminole people. This is a superb sculpture! And big! Unfortunately, with the help of the U.S. government the Seminoles were pretty much conquered and subjugated. But I like the sentiment, nonetheless.

What a fantastic sculpture and an inspiring tradition. It never even occurred to me when I first saw it that the spear would light up with fire. That's great.

Reminds me of the saying of House Martell in the Game of Thrones book and tv series. Which is Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken. In the series, the land they ruled (Dorne) was kept independent by a King who conquered the nation by the use of three dragons, which were the only of their kind at the time. By the time of the series' present time-line started, Dorne was part of the country but only because of a pact of marriage, not because they lost a war or a battle.
Though unfortunately for the Seminoles like the vast majority of Native American tribes, USA forces proved to be too strong for them when their lands seemed prime for the taking.
Marvelous sculpture! I imagine it looks very impressive lit up.
