A couple of alligators we saw earlier this summer when I took my grandkids on a boat ride down the Wakulla River just south of town. Around here you don't really need to go out of your way to find an alligator. Any body of water in these parts most likely has at least one or two. They have even been known to show up in your yard if you live near a pond. In a neighborhood near mine a couple of years ago, a lady even found one under her car when she went outside to leave for work one morning.

Generally, if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Although we much of their habitat being lost to urbanization, it isn't surprising to see them in town or near where humans live.

yikes! i know we have some in this area - mostly due to folks letting little ones go into ponds and lakes - but i'm glad they're not native to this area!
