Jim Woodruff Dam and Lake Seminole

River side of the dam.

Lake Seminole on the other side.

Building on top of the dam.

Ominous sign near the road by the dam. If we had heard the horn, you better believe we would have gotten out of there fast!

I took my grandkids on a day trip to see the Jim Woodruff Dam which impounds Lake Seminole and is located about 50 miles northwest of Tallahassee near the Florida-Georgia state line. This hydroelectric dam on the Apalachicola River is located about 1,000 feet south of the river's origin at the confluence of the Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers. The dam was named in honor of James W. Woodruff, Sr., a Georgia businessman who spearheaded the development of the project.

Welcom back, I hadn't noticed yet. Such a big project as this dam is great to watch for children and adults too.

Having had a bad experience with suddenly changing water levels myself once, I take all such warnings VERY seriously.

I wonder if this dam thing is still needed today. I know some places they're tearing down dams to let the water flow as it did originally. The river side is very pretty!

Hi Lois...you are exactly right! That is a West Virginia truck. Sorry about that but I'll make the correction. Thanks for letting me know!

Wonderful photos of both sides of the dam. I once floated down the Flint River near Albany, Ga, in an innertube with college friends.

What fun!

I guess you didn't need a dam(n) guide. GRIN.

I would be curious to watch these change of levels from a safe distance...
