I've seen this sign posted on this tree in the front yard of this house for years.

What does it mean?

I guess it is stop in Spanish, by the way in Italian it means 'tall'...

They just want you to slow down in Spanish...or maybe they want Spanish speakers to slow down so they're easier to understand, or perhaps they want everyone to stop whatever they're doing. Now I'm really confused! :)

I'm a baritone myself. :-)

Perhaps the family name of who lives there? Other than Spanish, just taking some swings in the dark.

I love the trees and plants. It seems to be a weird place for the sign..Have a happy day!

There's a message in there somewhere.

Interesting and curious. Be fun to learn the history! But whatever, it's a great shot for the day!! And I hope you have a beautiful day -- stop or go, alto or soprano!!

A curious addition to a yard, I'd say.

Funny!

Odd. The shape says Stop but what's that's little symbol under ALTO? It echoes the shape of the tree.

Looks like they want to get you to go around the tree!

Interesting, but confusing sign. One day you might just ring the doorbell and ask about it.

Well, the front yard sure is beautiful! It was fun reading all these comments.

It doesn't look like theres much room to go directly around the tree. I suppose it's as good a place as any to hang this sign.

Meant for the tree, motorists, or pedestrians

Maybe that tree is too high or the road is going uphill...i don't know. :-) Anyway, they put a sign so its FYI. :-)

Alto is High in Spanish which I guess the tree is.

It would be neat if you saw somebody in the yard to ask.
