SkyWatch Friday

I must admit that I have posted pictures from time to time that were not taken in Tallahassee, but this one was taken farther away than any I have ever posted before. This handsome fellow posing for me is one of the ravens residing at the Tower of London and I took this picture earlier this summer. Bird lover that I am, I spent more time sitting on a bench watching the ravens than I did looking at the Crown Jewels, especially since they wouldn't let you take pictures of the jewels. Legend has it that six ravens must guard the Tower at all times, or the monarchy will fall. To learn more about these pampered birds, visit here. It also happened to be a warm sunny day in London, so the sky was looking pretty good too. Linking to SkyWatch Friday.

I'd love to visit the Tower. I've heard that story before. There is a similar one with Gibraltar, if the monkeys ever leave, Britain's hold over the promontory ends.

I caught about ten minutes of a show on PBS two or three weeks ago, and they were explaining this and showing the guards whose sole job is taking care of the ravens!

The Tower of London is such a neat place. I didn't know that about the ravens. I love this shot of the raven against the sky!0

Beautiful shot, I had never heard of the raven legend.

I saw the crown jewels and I thought it was a bit over dramatic.

I remember riding on the conveyor belt past the crown jewels. They are so fancy, but really impractical. Who really wants stuff like that? I'd be with you outside watching the birds! Love this guy in silhouette.

Ravens, I agree, are a lot more interesting than jewels.

About monkeys in Gibraltar. I understand they don't last and replacements have to be brought in. That says something about empire?

I can't see if the sky is in Tallehassee or another place, can't I? So don't worry about that, we just enjoy your photo's wherever they are made. Those ravens circle around the Tower indeed.

Ah the famous tower ravens!

Jack and Birdman, I saw that PBS show too before I went on this trip, so when I was visiting the Tower I specifically went looking for the ravens. Then a few weeks ago, I saw a rerun of the same show and enjoyed it even more because I had seen them in person!
