Continuing with my series on the Knott House, here are some more pictures from Luella Knott's Victorian living room. The mounted birds under glass are located on the left side of the mantle over the fireplace. There was also another mounted bird on the other side of the mantle. I found them both a little disconcerting since I am such a bird lover. Luella's poem about the birds is attached and reads:
"Mounted Birds ---
We're glad that you do not think that we
Are silly or absurd;
That you take time to read a rhyme
About a little bird."

Interesting shots from inside Knott House Lois, I', a bit like you I can't even bear to see birds in cages.
Back then people had different views of wildlife. We went to a museum once that had drawers and drawers full of stuffed birds from back when people thought that was a good idea., I forget where, but I remember that I had nightmares for days.
So yeah, the birds are kind of awful to us nowadays I agree, but boy I envy her library and all those books. Isn't it beautiful!!!!
The wealth of books alone makes it appealing!
Oh dear, the poor birds! (Well I guess it was just a different time -- perfectly acceptable then to kill songbirds and put then in your parlor! Yikes!)
Your post inspires me to go to a similar historic home/museum in my city that I've never explored. I've been meaning to do that for years -- thanks for the inspiration Lois!
