Although Luella Knott loved furnishing her house with pieces from the Victorian Era, when it came to the kitchen, she preferred it to be up to date. This is what her 1930's kitchen looked like. The electric refrigerator was quite a modern convenience for that time, since most people relied on ice boxes to keep their food from spoiling.

what a cute little kitchen!
They probably work better than appliances today. I like them.
Those old kitchen are so special to see. People had to deal with them.

Your pics of this wonderful old place have been terrific and I have enjoyed the series so much!! Have to admit though that I prefer the kitchens of today and have no desire to step back in time permanently!! Just a visit that makes me appreciate my world all the more!! Have a great week, Lois!!
That's a marvelously old fashioned kitchen. The breadbox looks quite similar to one I've seen in a private home.
This Knott House series is very interesting, Lois, the green boxes on the last photo are so nice!
..and I bet they managed just fine.. sometimes I think these days we overload on electrical appliances! Such a super series of shots from Knott House Lois.
I've been curious about the kitchen ever since you started this series. I always love that room the most whenever we get to tour old homes. You learn so much about what it was like in the era. Yes, the electric frig was quite modern for the 30s. My husband remembers how exciting it was when his parents got their first electric refrigerator in the early 40s.
Boy have times changed!
We look at rooms like this and think "old fashioned." It is a good reminder that some of these were very modern for the times.
This are some very nice old fashioned pieces of furniture...
