Camera Critters: Love is in the Air

For obvious reasons, these critters are commonly called "love bugs". We are currently in the middle of the fall love bug season, but we also see them for a few weeks in the spring. These little pests are flying around attached to each other everywhere you look, but they especially like to congregate near roads and highways because they are attracted to the exhaust from cars. My son was even complaining the other day because they were following him around the yard while he mowed the grass! Fortunately they will be gone in another week or so. To see more interesting critters from all over the world, don't miss Camera Critters.

We didn't have many last year at all! I hate it because they get in my house.

Ain't love grand! ;)

They must rest up all summer only to fall madly in 'love' in the fall.

I never realized they were attracted to exhaust fumes!

Oh, love is grand indeed!! What a fun shot for the day, Lois, even if they are pests! I can be kind since we don't have them here in northwest -- at least I've never seen any! Hope your weekend is going well! Enjoy!

I hate these things because they get all over the car and have to be cleaned off or they mess up the paint. But at least they don't bite. We've not seen many here yet, so maybe you got the first infestation!

Way back when I was building pipelines in the woods and swamps of south Louisiana the lovebugs would take over town for days at a time.

I remember these bugs very well and am quite thankful that I've never seen one up here in Portland, Oregon. If they're here, I don't know about it, and I can't remember anyone at work complaining about their vehicles being plastered with 'em.

They are a little annoying, but at least they don't bite or anything!

First time I've been a love bug, outside of a Volkswagen.
