Headed West to Help
I was at the store this morning and noticed these trucks parked in the parking lot. Since this store is close to Interstate 10, I can only assume they are on their way west to help restore power to those affected by Hurricane Isaac. It was and still is mostly a rain event here, so we got lucky this time. By the way, I apologize for not being able to visit and comment more on my favorite blogs, but I've started my new job taking care of my six week old grandson since his mommy is going back to work. I'm also chauffeuring my older grandkids back and forth to school and taking care of them in the afternoons, so I've been pretty busy!

Taphophile Tragics
I took this picture in Roselawn Cemetery, one of several city owned cemeteries in Tallahassee. I've always liked this cemetery because of the shady landscaping. I'm not sure why the deer were placed in this particular spot, but they must have some special significance to one of the nearby graves. This is my first contribution to Taphophile Tragics.

Student Art
I know absolutely nothing about this piece of art. I took the picture earlier this summer in front of the Fine Arts Building on the Florida State University campus. I think it's kind of interesting.

I noticed this little guy riding home with me on the windshield of my car. I've never seen a spider quite like it before. To see more fascinating critters from just about everywhere, visit Camera Critters.

SkyWatch Friday
Clouds gathering behind the sign in front of the building housing the Tallahassee Democrat, our local newspaper. It looks like we might have some tropical weather headed our way, which is not good news. Stay away Tropical Storm Isaac! To see more skies from around the world, visit SkyWatch Friday.

Frozen Chill
My grandkids and I have been stopping in for frozen yogurt quite a bit this summer. One of the things I've noticed since I been retired is that places like this are a lot less crowded on weekday afternoons than they are on weekends.

Glasswork by Susan
This picture shows more detail of one of the historic stone Cottages at Lake Ella. Most of them house locally owned businesses in midtown Tallahassee. This one belongs to Glasswork by Susan. The cottages were built in the 1920's and 1930's as part of the Tallahassee Motor Hotel. Most of them back up to the shore of Lake Ella.

Carousel Cupcakery and Sweet Shop
Here is another new business located near Lake Ella. I love cupcakes, so I will definitely be trying this place. By the way, I took my grandkids to Big Easy Snowballs (which I featured on my blog here last Thursday) and we loved it!

Snowballs
Big Easy Snowballs is also located in The Cottages at Lake Ella, which is a group of historic stone cottages housing a variety of eclectic shops. These cottages were built in the late 1920's and early 1930's as part of the old Tallahassee Motor Motel. They are located on the north shore of Lake Ella in midtown Tallahassee. I haven't tried this place yet, but I plan on taking my grandchildren there before school starts next week.

If you did your back to school shopping this past weekend in Florida, you didn't have to pay sales tax. I took this picture in the Tallahassee Mall.
