Piggly Wiggly

This week I visited some of my family who live in Bonifay, a small Florida panhandle town west of Tallahassee. This is the local grocery store in Bonifay.

Always wondered if Mel Blanc was part owner of this chain. Loved Porky! He made stuttering kinda cool back then.

Both the name and logo are pretty cool.

I love small town life! It seems the grocery stores are usually Piggly Wigglys or IGAs. We have an IGA here. Have a great weekend!

That is a Southern chain. The logo is cute. I guess with the little hat the cheerful pig is supposed to be an employee, not what they serve at the meat counter.

I've heard of Bonifay but haven't been there. I've not seen a Piggly Wiggly in years...thought it went out of business!

Re your comments: It must have been fun to grow up in Florida, riding airboats, windsurfing, etc.

Lovely name even if an uncommon one. Sounds very friendly.

We always went to the Piggly Wiggly when we were staying with my Gran in Texas. It's definitely a nostalgic place for me. Plus the name is so funny!

Fun name for grocery store Lois, I've always wondered what a 'panhandle' town means??

"Panhandle" refers to the strip of land in the northwestern part of the state of Florida. There are many small towns located in this area. Eight other states have areas that are referred to as "panhandles" too (Texas and Oklahoma to name just a couple).

I grew up in Bonifay when I was a young boy Ave this piggly wiggly and the IGA were the only 2 grocery stores in town. Brings back a lot of fond memories seeing this picture
