SkyWatch Friday
Early morning moon. I'm so sorry I have not been posting and commenting regularly lately. I just get so busy playing with my grandkids that I run out of time. To see more fascinating skies from around the world, don't miss SkyWatch Friday.

Ochlockonee River Wildlife Management Area
The Ocklockonee River Wildlife Management Area is located just west of Tallahassee and is part of the Lake Talquin State Forest. Most of the area is hardwood forest, cypress swamps, and pinelands. Wildlife includes red-shouldered hawks, bobcats, coyotes, white-tailed deer, and turkeys. Can you see the dragonfly hovering up there in the top part of my picture?

Electric Cooperative
A substation for Talquin Electric Cooperative, which is a member-owned, non-profit electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Quincy, a town just west of Tallahassee. The cooperative provides services to homes and businesses across a four-county, 2,600 square mile service territory including Gadsden, Leon, Liberty, and Wakulla counties of Florida. To find out more about Talquin and their history, you can visit their website here.

Shadow Shot Sunday
The boat landing at Lake Jackson on US highway 27 north of Tallahassee. I like the way the shadows hit the sign. To see more fabulous shadows, be sure to visit Shadow Shot Sunday.

Table with a lake view
This picnic table is located at one of the boat landings near Lake Jackson which is just north of Tallahassee. You can see the lake in the background. Sorry I haven't been visiting and commenting too much lately. These grandkids are running me ragged! I love it though :)

Signs, Signs
I guess it is safe to assume that Oliver and Bertha live on this street. More interesting signs can be found at signs, signs.

Old City Cemetery
Grave markers in Old City Cemetery of two members of the same family who died in the yellow fever epidemic that hit Tallahassee in 1841. The outbreak began in May and continued until the end of October. Mary Ann Scott died on Sunday evening, June 27th ("age 23 years, 7 days"). Mrs. Rebecca Scott died on July 3rd ("27 years and 24 days old") and is actually identified on her grave marker as the "consort" of Andrew Scott.

Weekend Reflections
The sky reflected in windows of some of the older buildings in downtown Tallahassee. I remember when these buildings were retail stores in the days before malls and you could actually shop downtown. The Florida Association of Counties is one of the many lobbyist groups located in these buildings now because they are close to the state Capitol building. Visit Weekend Reflections to see more wonderful reflections from around the world.

SkyWatch Friday
My granddaughter and I enjoy watching the jet trails across the early morning sky while we are waiting for school to start. Those tiny black dots are birds. To see more fabulous skies from around the world, don't miss SkyWatch Friday.

Gas Light
I was parked on the street near midtown Tallahassee when I took this picture. It probably looks better at night, so I might go back and take another one when it's dark.

Taphophile Tragics
The elaborate grave of Elizabeth "Bessie" Budd Graham is located in Old City Cemetery near downtown Tallahassee. The marker faces west instead of east like most of the inscribed faces of the markers in this cemetery and has inspired strange rumors through the years that she might have been a witch. Bessie was born on October 19, 1866 and died on November 24, 1887. Visit Taphophile Tragics to see more interesting cemetery shots from around the world.

Just hangin' around
I noticed these two characters while I was stopped in traffic over the weekend. I think they are sick and tired of this election too and will be glad when it's over.

Weekend Reflections
I had planned to vote early yesterday until I got to the Leon County Courthouse and saw that the line snaked half way around the building. I think I'll just wait until Tuesday and vote while most people are at work. I'm linking this picture to Weekend Reflections since I noticed Florida's historic old Capitol dome with the flag on top reflected in the courthouse windows on the left side of the picture. The courthouse is across the street from the Capitol building.

Get 'em while they're hot
The only thing better than watching Krispy Kreme doughnuts being made is eating them while they are still hot.

Iron frying pans and other cool stuff
After taking yesterday's picture, I turned around and saw this interesting collection hanging on the outside of someone's house. Those iron frying pans remind me of my grandmother. She used to cook in them all the time and I even have one that belonged to her that I still use every once in awhile.

Empty
Although the sign says it's the "home of Cal's Tupelo Honey", this building is sitting empty near downtown Havana. I liked the way it looks.

Ice cold soda in the bottle
Now this is the way we drank our soda back when I was a kid. We bought these drinks at Havana's General Store and they sure were good! I even taught my grandson how to blow air across the top of the bottle and make it sound like a foghorn.

Just one more...
I couldn't resist! This guy is located across the street from the one I showed yesterday. My grandkids really liked this one.

Hot Dog?
One of the things I like about Havana are these cute little pieces of art located in random spots downtown. Last year I posted a picture of another one here. I had to be careful taking this picture because it is located on the side of a building right on main street and I didn't want to get run over!

Save the Tata's
I couldn't resist taking a picture of this display in front of one of the buildings in downtown Havana. As you probably already know, October is breast cancer awareness month.

A little break....
I want to apologize for not posting regularly or visiting and commenting on my favorite blogs lately. I am retired, but find that I am working harder than ever taking care of my grandchildren. I can't seem to get out and get pictures for my blog as easily as I could before. The two older ones are 8 and 4 years old and attend school during part of the day, but the little one is not quite 3 months old and he is taking up most of my time, in a good way! I am really enjoying this new phase of my life, and I appreciate all of my blogging friends so much. I ask for your patience while I try to strike a healthy balance with my new responsibilities and my blogging activities. Happy weekend!

Taphophile Tragics
These three Civil War era graves are located in Old City Cemetery near downtown. This cemetery was established in 1829 and is the oldest public cemetery in Tallahassee. Only the marker in the front of the picture bears the name of the person buried here, while the others are simply marked "C.S.A." which stands for Confederate States of America. There is a section on the opposite side of the cemetery where Union soldiers are buried. To see more interesting cemetery pictures, visit Taphophile Tragics.

Taphophile Tragics
I noticed this gravesite in Roselawn Cemetery had a sign next to it saying "Do not mow". I guess the family wants to do all of the maintenance themselves. To see more interesting cemetery photographs, don't miss Taphophile Tragics.

Poker anyone?
I noticed this sign behind a restaurant in town. Gretna is a small town just west of Tallahassee and apparently they have a poker room there along with barrel racing.
