This section of Old City Cemetery is devoted to Confederate soldiers. There is a section for Union soldiers which looks very similar to this on the other side of the cemetery. I guess they didn't want to bury them too close together! In the lower left corner of the first picture, you can see the pruned stump of a little tree. The second picture is a closeup of the same stump from a different angle. It looks like a little animal with a horn, an eye, and even a sly little smile on its face to me. Click on it to enlarge and tell me if I'm imagining things!

You're not seeing things! It looks like a prehistoric (but kind of cute) bird.
It does look like a stump creature. How's the window doing? Now that you have it home are you still pleased with it?
Good eye to catch that critter, whatever it is.
That is rather odd. It does look like a "creature" of some sort. Maybe a giraffe, a camel? All depends on what your imagination can come up with. Didn't know that Florida had that many Soldiers in the Civil War.
I can't wait to visit this cemetery. It looks like a skinny little dragon to me Lois! Have a wonderful day! It's a nice slightly foggy morning here today.
I see the Loch Ness Moster, Lois :D
Neat post, Lois. The stump makes me think of the Loch Ness monster. Thanks!
Bonjour dear Lois,
That Stump is interesting indeed, I don't know the reason but it reminds me a dragon! LOL Very cool capture, thanks for this great game with our imagination!

Confederate and Union graves in the cemetery help reinforce that the war is not merely history, but it was such a tragedy on the family level a century and a half ago. Ken Burns's documentary similarly personalized the sacrifice.
Good eye. I see it as a giraffe buried up to its neck.
I think it looks rather like the neck and head of a giraffe! Cute!
The photo is amazing. It does look like a fossil of a creature!
