Senate Chamber

The restored 1902 Senate Chamber in the old Florida Capitol is furnished with 32 reproduction oak desks and Senate President's bench. In 1902, an original desk and chair would have cost a total of $27.50. In the 1990's, when the desks and chairs were reproduced, they cost $750 apiece.

wow, quite a jump in price but i guess back then 27.50 was quite hefty! love those hanging lights!

Beautiful room and surprising such a small space for the senate. Just imagine all the ambition packed in that space.

Inflation, inflation, inflation! Such a handsome restoration!

Too bad they couldn't have kept the originals. But the reproductions are nice and I guess worth the money!

I love this series. Perhaps because it is Florida, it seems these rooms have so much more light than the US Capitol or Independence Hall.

You mention the chairs. When they restored the Old Supreme Court Chamber in the US Capitol, they went to the families of the justices who served in that era (1810 - 1865) and the families donated original chairs back to the Capitol.

I am enjoying these scenes, Lois. This one looks kind of like the scene in Hartford's Old State House from a century earlier.

There you go, a perfect example of inflation and explains why your house is not worth over 100 K and was only worth 10 K back in the Day.

The reproductions look great but a bit on the expensive side. Nice shots, Lois.
