
The first picture is of a painting done by Ponte Vedra artist
Ellen Jones from the old photograph in the second picture. The lady in the picture is my grandmother (also named Lois) and she posed for this picture back in 1924 on her 18th birthday. No one in our family had even seen this photo of her until it was featured on the cover of a 2000 calendar by the local newspaper. The photograph was found in the archives of the
Beaches Museum and History Center in Jacksonville Beach, which is where I grew up. The artist did a series of paintings based on historic photographs of the area and they were featured in an exhibit at the museum earlier this year. When I saw the painting of my grandmother, I just had to buy it and now it is hanging on the wall in my living room. My grandmother passed away in 1996.
