Protesting

A whole lot of unhappy people protesting across the street from the Capitol in downtown Tallahassee last week on the opening day of the Florida Legislature's 2011 session.

Gotta love when the legislature is in session. I don't foresee Gov. Scott having the kinds of protests that are still going on in Wisconsin.

They are protesting in Austin, TX also. It seems just a few years ago everyone was telling us how great teachers were and how we need more teachers, now teachers are suppose to be leeches and bad.

Great shots. I'm still working on a post about the Education really here. Cait's in town, so I've gotten behind in my blogging. I have a friend who is 180 degrees from me in political opinions, and he said to me that taking it to the streets demonstrating accomplishes nothing. I told him to tell that to the people in Egypt :) Kat

It is not clear why they are protesting for me, but it is a great democratic right to be allowed to do so.

Thank God! It's about time Floridians stood up to the high and mighty who are ruining thousands of lives and the state!

Over 100,000 protested in Madison the other day!

A lot of consternation going on among public employees everywhere including here in Oklahoma. It seems that their pensions and benefits were underfunded for years and now with the economic downturn the chickens are coming home to roost.
There are some real issues but I find the automatic assumption that somehow public employees are lazy or not very hardworking to be wrongheaded.

Is this what is called a Tea party? I have heard about this in the alternative news..

I think you are going to see a lot of this stuff this year. There is real tension between those who want spending reduced and people who want services maintained or grown.

Freedom of speech. One of America's loftiest, yet most basic, tenets. Good series of photos, Lois.

This is great, Lois! We had a demonstration of 200.000 people in Lisbon last saturday and 100.000 more marched in other cities. You can see it on my sunday post.
