Black Vultures
Here is another picture I took while visiting the Audubon exhibit at the Museum of Florida History. This is an original oil on canvas painting by John James Audubon. It is entitled Black Vultures, Carrion Crows with Deer Head.
I know Halcyon--it does seem cruel. Since he didn't have access to a camera in those days, I guess it seemed like the only way to get an accurate depiction of the birds. It is sad.
It is a good painting, Lois, but it is also pretty gory. I think he left out some of the mess that the vultures inflicted on the deer or it would have been worse.

Nice painting. I like exhibits that let you take photographs.
Interesting piece. It tells a story about nature without being too graphic. Have I mentioned how much I love Audubon? :)

We have seen the vultures make off with the last scraps of meat on deer killed by automobiles. Thankfully, they do a good job.
Great paintings - most galleries here don't allow photography.

Vultures get a bad rap; they are quite interesting birds and they're always natures clean-up crew.
I like vultures. I think they are interesting birds.
However, I am not so fond of Audubon as he killed and stuffed thousands of birds for his paintings. Seems a little cruel to me. :(

Boy, do I have mixed emotions when looking at this painting.
I didn't realize Audubon killed so many birds. Something wrong with that picture!
We had some vultures flying over us on the golf course this morning. I knew my game was bad but I didn't think it was dead. Whew!
Vultures are wonderful critters and a real help to all of us and the environment!
