This Chili's restaurant is located in the student union on the Florida State University campus. My followers in Florida will probably recognize that the image of the gator mascot from that "other" university in this state has an unhappy expression on his face probably because he has a garnet and gold spear planted in his chest.

Camera Critters
My grandson is my guest photographer again today and he took this picture in one of the beautiful gardens belonging to Darla, who I met through her wonderful blog More Family and Flowers. Darla also happens to live in the same neighborhood as my daughter! My grandson had a great time chasing butterflies, bees and lizards on a beautiful spring afternoon. Thanks Darla! My 6 year old grandson took this picture of a mockingbird sitting on a wire while we were taking a walk the other day, so he is my guest photographer for the day. To see more beautiful skies from around the world, don't miss SkyWatch Friday.

I saw another wood stork last weekend wading and fishing in this pond and happened to catch an egret taking off nearby. To see more fascinating critters from around the world, don't miss Camera Critters.

Weekend Reflections

A hazy sky reflected in the windows of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles headquarters in Tallahassee. I had to get my driver's license renewed last week and that was an ordeal because I had to show them my passport, social security card, marriage certificate, and two pieces of recent mail showing my physical address just to prove my identity and residency. Then they made me take a vision test. Whew! To see more interesting reflections from around the world, don't miss Weekend Reflections.

Pecan tree with Spanish moss against the beautiful blue Tallahassee sky. The tree has not started leafing out yet, but I'm sure it won't be long now. To see more wonderful skies from around the world, visit SkyWatch Friday.

Hotel Seminole
This terra cotta ornamentation on display in the lobby of the Museum of Florida History in downtown Tallahassee was originally a part of one of the earliest skyscrapers in Jacksonville, Florida. The downtown portion of Jacksonville had been destroyed by the Great Fire in 1901, one of the most destructive fires in the history of the southeastern United States. The Hotel Seminole was designed in the Prairie School style of Frank Lloyd Wright by Henry J. Klutho during the city's reconstruction. It was constructed in 1909 and rose a whopping 10 stories into the sky. The hotel was demolished in 1974.

Weekend Reflections

Another view of the reflections in the door of the Museum of Florida History in downtown Tallahassee and another view of your TDP blogger taking the picture. That tall building in the reflection is the Florida Capitol. To see more reflections from all over the world, go over and visit James at Weekend Reflections.
Note to fellow CDP bloggers who followed Kaori at Tokorozawa Daily Photo. I received an email from her yesterday and both she and her family are safe. Please keep Kaori and all of the people in Japan in your thoughts and prayers.

SkyWatch Friday

The sky is reflected in the glass doors and windows of the R.A. Gray Building which houses the Museum of Florida History in downtown Tallahassee. You can also see the Florida Capitol building behind the trees in the reflection and if you look hard, you can see your intrepid TDP blogger taking the picture. Snowy Owl

One of the few night scenes depicted in The Birds of America, this life sized engraving was created in 1831 from John James Audubon's original 1829 drawing. The second picture shows Audubon's personally mounted Snowy Owl specimen. As some of my blog followers have noted in the comments, it is sad to think that Audubon killed so many birds in the process of creating these beautiful prints and paintings.

The Wild Turkey

This 1858 Bien Edition Lithograph of The Wild Turkey was one of my favorite pieces in the Audubon exhibit now on display at the Museum of Florida History. Audubon drew and painted the wild turkey quite often and chose this life sized engraving to be Plate 1 in The Birds of America. He studied turkeys extensively since he hunted and raised them for food. He also kept a tame turkey as a pet. I apologize for the reflections showing up in the glass of the frames in these pictures. I really tried to minimize those reflections as much as possible.

Audubon Exhibit
Last week I got a chance to visit the Museum of Florida History in downtown Tallahassee and view the John James Audubon Exhibit. Featured in the exhibit are rare Audubon works of art and artifacts, including original oil paintings, letters, photographs, personal items and more than sixty original hand-colored engravings from The Birds of America, selected from the collection and archives of the John James Audubon Museum. For the next few days I will show some pictures from my visit. The Museum of Florida History is located in the R.A. Gray Building just west of the Florida Capitol and in this picture you can see the front entrance with part of the Capitol building reflected in the lower left window.

Watery Wednesday
This seagull wasn't too sure he wanted me to take his picture, but then he wasn't too sure I didn't have some bread for him either so he went ahead and posed. Seagulls can be pushy (not to mention loud) when you show up at the lake with food, so I don't usually feed them. To see more wonderful watery shots, be sure to visit Watery Wednesday.

Theme Day -- Favorite Part of Town
Actually Lake Ella is just one of my favorite parts of Tallahassee. This lake is located in midtown and there is always something going on there and lots to do. You can walk around the lake and get some exercise, browse the cute little Cottages at Lake Ella shops, visit an Art Gallery, enjoy some ice cream or a bite to eat, or just sit and do some people watching. There are always lots of birds around too, which I just love! The first day of the month is Theme Day for the City Daily Photo Community.
