Words on a stone

Your friends are not dead, but gone before
Advanced a stage or two upon that road
Which you must travel in the steps they trod.

Resting

This little squirrel was enjoying a recent warm day by sprawling out on this tree branch and posing for my blog. I think he is a juvenile. Isn't he cute!

Flan?

Someone decided to make this downtown sign pointing to the Museum of Florida History more interesting, but it did remind me that I haven't visited the museum in awhile. They are featuring an Audubon exhibit right now and I'm sure I could get some great blog pictures.

Florida State Park

There has been some talk about closing state parks lately due to the budget shortfall in the State of Florida, so I thought I would feature the state park closest to my house. You can read more about the Lake Jackson Mounds here.

Mounted Posse

I guess the posse that belongs to this horse needed to make a quick stop at the mall before moving on.

Wood Stork, Egret and the Moon

I think the egret is pretending to ignore the stork! This picture looks even better if you click on it and enlarge it. There are also two other birds flying around back there near the moon. The branch these beautiful birds are sitting on hangs over a pond behind the Tallahassee Mall.

I think he was looking for some chicken fingers. I took his picture at Zaxby's. They do make pretty good fried pickles there.

Leroy Collins Leon County Public Library

The main building of the Leon County Public Library is located downtown and is named for former governor of Florida, Leroy Collins. This building also gained notoriety during the 2000 U.S. presidential election because disputed ballots from Miami-Dade county were trucked to Tallahassee and brought here, where they were hand counted by local judges. While the counting was going on, hundreds of reporters were camped out in the park across the street where I was standing when I took this picture.

Theme Day - Fountains

Posted by Picasa

I have featured this fountain on my blog before, but since I think it is the most beautiful fountain in town, I am showing it again for Theme Day. This is the Florida Heritage Fountain located downtown on the west front of the Florida Capitol and facing the Florida Supreme Court. The dolphin sculpture within the fountain is called "Stormsong". The first day of the month is Theme Day for the City Daily Photo community.
