My grandson got his face painted last weekend. He is so excited about Halloween!

SkyWatch Friday

Lamp post in front of the rear entrance to the General Store in downtown Havana, which is just north of Tallahassee. The sky was a gorgeous shade of blue when we attended the annual Pumpkin Festival last week. To see more beautiful skies from around the world, don't miss SkyWatch Friday.

SkyWatch Friday

I visited this shop while attending the Pumpkin Festival in downtown Havana, Florida last weekend. I like the little pine tree growing up there on the roof. Havana is located just a few miles north of Tallahassee. To see more beautiful skies from around the world, take a look at SkyWatch Friday.

Pumpkins

Last weekend my daughter and I took my grandchildren to the annual Pumpkin Festival in Havana, Florida. Havana is a beautiful little town just a few miles north of Tallahassee. Of course there were pumpkins at the Pumpkin Festival, but there were also quite a few other fun things to do. I will be featuring Havana and the Pumpkin Festival on my blog for the next few days.

Who you gonna call?
I took this picture through the windshield of my car while I was sitting in traffic on my way home from work the other day. Click on the picture to enlarge and see the license tag and the model of the car (Kia "Soul"). They also have a website, if you want to know more about this group.

Ruby Diamond
Ruby Diamond Auditorium on the Florida State University campus has just undergone an extensive restoration. The original auditorium was built in 1911. It developed a settling crack and was closed in 1951. It was torn down, and a new auditorium was built in 1954. The auditorium is located in the Westcott Administration building and was named in honor of Ruby Diamond who was a lifelong citizen of Tallahassee and one of thirteen members of the 1905 graduating class of the Florida State College. As one of FSU's most revered alumni and benefactors, "Miss Ruby" generously supported her alma mater for over 65 years by establishing scholarships and donating land adjacent to the campus. In 1981, at age 95, she donated downtown property assessed at more than $100,000 in order to partially fund an endowed chair in the College of Education.

Spanish Moss

I took this picture while I was sitting on a bench during my lunch break. I like the way the Spanish moss looks with the sun shining through it. If you click on the picture and enlarge it you can see the very top of the Florida capitol building peeking through from downtown Tallahassee in the bottom left corner.

Red Light Camera
One of the newly installed red light cameras near a busy intersection in Tallahassee. If you run the light, you will be photographed and a citation will be mailed to the owner of the car. This particular intersection was targeted because it has had a high percentage of traffic crashes in recent years.

Golf
Today I am showing pictures of the Florida State University Seminole Golf Course and Clubhouse. The Professional Golf Management Program at FSU is one of only 20 PGA accredited programs in the country that graduates PGA Class A Golf Professionals. Offering students a combined curriculum with the PGA and the FSU Dedman School of Hospitality, graduates of this program are well prepared for careers in the golf industry. The Golf Management Program is housed at a championship golf course with state-of-the-art practice facilities, classrooms, a pro shop and a restaurant. For more information on this program, you can go to their website.

Big Magnets
The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory is the only facility of its kind in the United States and is the largest and highest-powered magnet laboratory in the world. Headquarters for the lab is near the Florida State University campus, but it also has sites at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and the University of Florida in Gainesville and is jointly operated by these three institutions. It attracts around 900 scientists and engineers traveling from all over the globe for a chance to work at this facility. You can read more about the lab by visiting their website here.

Unicycle

Yesterday I showed a picture of one way to get around a college campus. Today I'm showing another. This is definitely new to me especially since FSU has so many hills. This student is pedaling uphill on her unicycle with her backpack on. When she passed me, I did a double take and fortunately I had my camera ready and was able to get her picture as she rushed to class.

This empty store was obviously a victim of a combination of bad economic times and the convenience, price and availability of online video options.

Theme Day -- Graffiti
Just when I didn't think I would be able to participate in Theme Day this month, I noticed the trash can outside the building where I work. The first day of the month is Theme Day for the City Daily Photo community.
