Just up the river from the alligators that I showed you yesterday is the swimming area at Wakulla Springs State Park. Don't worry, the alligators know they are not supposed to go past that rope you see floating on the water around the swimmers! The water coming up out of those springs stays at around 68-70 degrees year round, which is a little too cold for me, even on a hot summer day.

I'm not sure about those alligators, I think they are so near from this cool place.I hope the alligators can respect all signs there and rules! LOL
wow it's a beautiful Spring day!

That's ice water, not swimming water.
Looks refreshing, except I'd still be worried about those gators obeying the rules!
It's never too cool for the kiddies though!
lovely place to chill (literally and figuratively)
Rainbow Springs and Silver Springs stay at 72 degrees year round...but I'm with you - that's too darn cold! This looks like a lovely place for a family picnic, though. And kids don't seem to mind the colder water as much as some of us "older" folks!
Hmmmm, it's all in where you swim I guess - our rivers run between 60 and 70 degrees year round ... and in hot weather it's like jumping into an ice bath! But the swimming areas are always packed when it's hot. Maybe it's because it's too cold for alligators?
I guess that could be considered cold water. I grew up swimming in lakes and Puget Sound which was like ICE, but as Jacob said 'kids don't seem to mind'.
Never had to worry about 'gators though. MB
Lois, this park is amazing with all the wonderful activities you can enjoy there. Great family fun in the sun ;)
I am sure alligators know, but what if they forget?
Do the alligators really come around while there are swimmers in the water?
Abe--the alligators don't like people any more than we like them and they usually don't bother swimmers. However, it is not advisable to ever walk your dog near any body of water which may contain an alligator, because they will not hesitate to come after a dog.
The water looks so inviting, it was almost 100° here yesterday!
☼ Sunny
68 to 70 would be freezing. I bet the gators don't like it too much either.
That looks like a great place to go when the sun gets hot. 68 or 70 sounds warm to me. I used to swim in the Pacific ocean in California when the water was in the 50's. Now that is cold. :)
That's a little too cold for me too. Plus alligators?? Thank you, but I'll stick with our beaches. ;)
hee hee
«Louis» isn't sure he'd trust the 'gators to stay on their side of the "Mason-Dixon Line'!
At least one swimmer has been killed by gators at Wakulla Springs. He broke the rules and snorkeled down river from the springs. A tour boat full of tourists found the gator in the middle of, well, you know.
Maybe the alligators avoid the cold water, too!
