Trail Head
Tom Brown Park is a 255 acre city park located on the eastern side of Tallahassee. It contains numerous baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, a kids playground, a disc golf course, a BMX track, picnic areas, nature trails and this mountain bike trail called the Magnolia Trail. Tom Brown Park also hosts many of Tallahassee's special events, including the 4th of July Fireworks Show. For the next few days, I will be showing pictures I took of different areas around the park.

I bet its fun walking around with a camera in the park. Our park is pretty drab.
I don't mean to be a contrarian, but I am amused by a sign for a "mountain bike trail" in Florida. Mountains in Florida? I haven't seen any. I doubt that there is much elevation gain on this mountain bike trail.
I suspect that they are using the term mountain bike to mean an unpaved trail in the woods, as distinguished from a street bike trail.
Looks like a nice place to ride your trail bike. Something I've never done. I'll be watching for your pictures.
Dave--I thought the same thing when I saw this sign. Tallahassee is actually quite hilly and some of the hills can be quite steep, but nothing compared to mountains!
Cool! Have you tried the bike trail? It's good to give them somewhere to ride that's safe (from cars anyway!).
A great park Lois.....
I'll leave the bike trail to the others, but I'm betting it's a beautiful place!
Hey you-again,
Leave it to you to spot that bird, Lois :)
Tallahassee parks have so much to offer. And this one seems to have it all. I wish we had some of those hills around here!
I look forward to seeing your pictures. I think it's great that cities make room for parks, it looks like a nice place to take a walk.
Sunny :)
It looks to be a cool place to have fun on the weekends!
Léia :)
Being quite lazy I'm sure to enjoy visiting a park without leaving my couch!
I'm most interested in the Magnolia Trail and the trailhead. Is it paved? Do you know the length of the trail. I know there's a trail that runs from Tallahassee to St. Mark's and we've often thought about riding it, but keep putting it off. Maybe now's the time.
Is that anywhere near the famous everglades? Looks like a great place to ride a mountain bike.
Jacob--I've never been on the trail so I don't know much about it. There is an online map here: http://www.talgov.com/parks/pdf/magnoliatrail.pdf
I've never been on the St. Marks Trail either, but I have seen it from the highway that runs parallel to it as you drive down to St. Marks. St. Marks is a lovely little town and there's also the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge and the beautiful St. Marks Lighthouse. You should definitely go!
Bill-the Everglades are down in south Florida, while Tallahassee is located in north Florida. Some of the areas around here are swampy like the Everglades and we most definitely have our share of alligators and snakes!
Nice shot and a beautiful spot for any kind of bike.
Darryl and Ruth : )
BMX track! That sounds like fun :D
How wonderful that there is a place that lets kids be kids - in a good way - that they can go mountain biking, play softball, disc golf ... we need something like that around here! No wonder the kids are runnin' amuck!
