SkyWatch Friday

Look closely and you will see the mockingbird, which also happens to be Florida's state bird, serenading me as I walked under this beautiful old oak tree near downtown Tallahassee. He is almost the same color as the Spanish moss. To see more beautiful skies from around the world, please visit SkyWatch Friday.

Burned out

I'm not sure when this happened, but it was a sad sight to see. One of the beautiful old houses located on College Avenue between FSU and downtown Tallahassee.

Looking for a place to sit?

Posted by Picasa

This couch perched on a picnic table was located in front of a fraternity house near the FSU campus. I'm sure there must be a good reason.

We had some horrific weather in our part of the country this past weekend. My brother-in-law's house in Alabama was hit by a tornado and the whole back of the house, back porch and garage were destroyed. Fortunately no one was in the house at the time. No tornadoes around here, but the thunderstorms were pretty scary!

Camera Critters

What are you looking at? This male house finch has been a frequent visitor to my feeder lately. The female has been around too, but I think they may have a nest nearby so they usually don't show up at the same time. To see more cute critters from around the world, stop by Camera Critters.

Weekend Reflections

Reflections in the glass display case next to the theatre show the windows on the other side of the lobby in the Fine Arts Building on the Florida State University campus. You can also see the brick walls of the courtyard just outside the windows and a silhouette of a student sitting in one of the window seats studying on her laptop. Each star in the display case features the name of a patron or alumni of the FSU School of Theatre. To see more beautiful and interesting reflections from all over the world, please visit James at Weekend Reflections.

SkyWatch Friday

Potbelly's is a popular student hang-out located about two blocks down College Avenue from the main gate of Florida State University. I like the pig on the sign! The sky looked pretty impressive the day I took this picture too and if you look closely you can see a couple of birds flying overhead. Grafitti Romance

College students like to write stuff on anything they can. I noticed these partial lyrics to an old Peter Frampton song written on a metal railing by the sidewalk while I was walking down a street next to a fraternity house near the FSU campus. It says "Ooh baby I love your ways" and after seeing that, I couldn't get that song out of my head for the rest of the day!

Presbyterian University Center

After passing Calvin's Coffee House on my walk, I turned the corner and found myself in front of The Presbyterian University Center which is located across the street from the College of Music and just down from the main gate of Florida State University. According to their website, their purpose is to be a community of faith with primary emphasis on student ministry, reaching out to Tallahassee's academic community. They are located in a beautiful old building and this is what part of the front of it looks like.

Coffee House

Continuing on my lunch time walk, about a block up the road from my building and located in the rear of the Presbyterian University Center is Calvin's Coffee House. According to their Facebook page, it was named after French theologian John Calvin and you can see his picture on their sign. I haven't tried it, but it looks like a great place.

Student Art

Posted by Picasa

When the weather is nice, I like to take walks during my lunch break at work. Since I work at FSU, which has a beautiful campus, there are always interesting things to check out. I found this hanging from a large oak tree branch in front of my building. I'm pretty sure it is a student art project, since the end of the semester in rapidly approaching. I thought it was interesting enough to post a blog picture. Notice the two metal butterflies tangled in the moss above it.

Camera Critters

I admit this is not the actual critter, but it is close enough for me! I found this right next to my back door, which means the snake is probably lurking nearby enjoying his new bigger skin. To see more critters from around the world, be sure to visit Camera Critters.

I found this placque on the sidewalk in Ponce de Leon Park downtown. One of the things I love most about this blog is the fact that I'm constantly discovering new things while looking for interesting pictures to post. I've walked past this many times and never noticed it before.

A close up view of a pine tree blooming. All that yellow pine pollen is making me sneeze and in the second picture you can see what it is doing to my car! At least we have had some beautiful skies lately and if you want to see more of them, please visit SkyWatch Friday.

Park Avenue Sidewalk

I liked the way the sidewalk looked while I was walking along it last week, even though it could use a rake for all those leaves. On the other side of the fence on the left is Old City Cemetery.

Keep Out or Else

Sign on the locked gate of an old cemetery downtown. I think it is because of vandalism and too many people doing things in there they aren't supposed to do.
