One last shot from my lunch in the park last week. This is the sidewalk across the street from Genevieve Randolph Park. I had to duck to keep my hair from touching the Spanish moss hanging from the trees as I was headed for my car to go back to work. I love to look at the moss, but I don't like it touching me!

I'm envious Lois, this street is peaceful and beautiful.Lucky you to have this opportunity. That tree is really beautiful!
Léia :)
It does look very pretty actually.
It's a host for red bugs for sure!! I do enjoy how it drapes though.
I always wanted trees like these in my yard. They reminded me of vacations because thats the only time I got to see them.
Hello, Lois
I've seen that Spanish moss while down in Disney last year. Kinda neat to see. Touching it didn't bother me at all. Must be nice that you can take a walk or break like that from your job. This is something that I can never do from the job that I have. I hardly ever get a break at all, let alone take an hour for lunch. Doesn't happen.
Julie and I just returned from Tanzania last night and we were reminded of Florida while there because we saw some trees with Spanish moss hanging from the branches, although not as much as you have shown today.
I appreciate the comments that you have left on my site, to which I was not able to respond during the past 2 weeks because of the limited email access while in tents in the Serengeti.
Lunch looks pretty interesting Tally.
I can't blame ya for not wanting it to touch ya, but it's really cool to look at. Does it eventually fall off the trees? What happens to it?
It falls off occasionally, but mostly it just keeps growing and spreading. I don't like it to touch me because my grandmother always used to tell me it had redbugs living in it (another word for chiggers which are nasty little bugs that burrow under your skin and itch like crazy).
A beautiful tree - it looks so graceful. In Australia it's called Old Man's Whiskers.
Cheers.

What a pretty scene with the blue sky peeking through.
Sunny :)
The Spanish moss is great but I bet it makes a nice hiding place for insects. :)
I think it is a good idea to avoid contact. Who knows, Grandmother could be right after all...
No, you don't want to touch it as it does have little critters in there that tend to bite. I've heard that the early settlers used it as bedding material - until they woke up all "welty" and itching! I also think it tends to kill the trees although I've had "tree" people tell me that's not the case.
We used to get chiggers in the grass in lawns up here. Never heard of them in trees or moss. It is a plantation style picture.
Is it really that low? Wow! It would be fun to take a picture of someone standing behind it, pretending it was their hair! Tee hee
Seen a lot of it in St Louis. Beautiful as it is during the day, it can be really creepy at night!
Wow! These are massive!
That is a gorgeous picture. I've never seen moss that looks like that. Is it rough and scratchy, or smooth? I had never heard that it is home to bugs. It looks too dry for bugs!

The trees are beautiful, but I agree with you about it touching your hair. I bet at nighttime it looks kind of creepy too.
As Chrome as «Louis'» Dome is, he'd welcome the Spanish Moss on his head - ANY foliage is welcome!
;-)
Beautiful.
I wouldn't let it touch me, either! I'm itching just thinking about it!
