Last Friday it was discovered that we have bats in the building where I work. This cute little guy was hanging on the ceiling right outside of my office! I think he was more scared of me than I was of him. You can learn more about Florida's bats by going here.

Ummm ... at the risk of offending the "bats-have-rights-too" brigade, may I profer a resounding "ugh"!
I think bats are nice and have a very bad PR problem. I have not seen one up close in a couple of years, see them flying around at dusk though. Many people do not notice them and are surprised when I point them out.
Okay, I can take a picture of a snake and even throw him across the fence, but I could NEVER get this close to a bat! Brave woman!
I know I shouldn't say it, but,"Batter up!"
Ahh Lois, you are really brave because I could not stare a bat even take a picture!
wow I hope people there can have an "ecological"ideal how to put all of these bats outside , or to other place.

I love these little guys. They are what keeps the planet safe for humankind. Otherwise we would have Walmart filled to the roof with mosquitoes.
I haven't seen many bats here in Florida, but I know in Texas they would come out in the evening and great multitudes of them would swoop down over the fields.
They are really good little creatures and I'm sure he was more frightened of you than vice versa.
It is also nice to have my intuition validated: there are bats in the belfry at FSU!
Just kidding! Just kidding!
I like bats too. We had them at the school where I used to work. Always hanging arounf the first grade pod. We have some here at my house too. Insect eaters. MB
YIKES!
I hope you did not cry, taking your hair
At least you won't have mosquitos!
Oh, my goodness! Ahahaaa...well, my, er, batty friend, that is just the cutest thing I've seen in a long time. (grin)
They really are amazing little creatures. I had one come down the chimney and into the house once. Pretty strange having that thing flapping all about. I opened the front door and it eventually found it's way out. That looks like a tiny one.
Haven't seen any real bats for a while, we used to have them in the attic at my grandparents place. Very cute they are!
It looks like a frog when I first see the pictures, before reading your words.
Nice pictures!.
I don't mind looking at the photos; they're interesting. But I do think I'd keep my office door closed until he found a different place to hang out.
Poor bat! :-) There are many around here, I can clearly listen to treir 'screams' at night.
Lois, that's a really great story and wonderful photo too. I'd rather have bats in the belfry, than hanging over my head from the ceiling.
Cool. But he would freak me out a bit too.

Good thing you weren't scared. I know a few people that would absolutely freak out!
Lovely little thing!
