Watery Wednesday

Posted by Picasa

Today my Watery Wednesday post is a picture of the reflecting pool at Maclay Gardens State Park in Tallahassee. Lake Hall can be seen in the distance. This is a meaningful spot for me because over 30 years ago, I was the matron of honor at my best friend's wedding ceremony held right here in front of the reflecting pool. I also attended the funeral of the son of one of my co-workers in this same spot two years ago. He was a soldier and was killed in Iraq in the service of our country. It was a beautiful military ceremony and I will never forget it. Today is Veteran's Day in the United States, the day we honor all of the military veterans who have served our country so bravely. Please think of them today.

You can visit Watery Wednesday to see more beautiful watery pictures from around the world.

A reflecting pool on a day of reflection — very appropriate tribute. The Philippines owes so much to your soldiers. So many of them died here during WWII and we will be forever grateful to them and their families.

Hi Lois,
This is a beautiful place and a wonderful tribute to Veterans Day. It must be so hard for those familys who have lost their loved ones. God bless them one and all.

I like the simplicity of the reflecting pool. What a wonderful spot to get married. Also, thank you for reminding us to remember those who have fallen today.

I'm ashamed because I forgot to wish my own dad a Happy Veteran's Day. I will though.

How deep is the pool?

Your Veterans' Day is our Remembrance Day: the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

Oh, I wish I were here just now, in a rainy, cold day.
And today we have in Poland the Independent Day. It's a reason to think about the years of war too...

Beautiful post, Lois. I feel bad that I didn't even mention Veterans Day in my blog! My husband was in Desert Storm!
