The Suwannee Room is a popular dining hall on the Florida State University campus located in one of the older buildings and it has a long history dating back to when FSU was the Florida State College for Women. It was refurbished and reopened in 2006 as a more modern eating establishment, but this display located in the entrance hall pays tribute to its past. On the left, you can see an example of an apron clad young college student serving a family style meal as a way to fund her college education. Behind her is a picture of what the Suwannee Room looked like in 1914. The right side of the display shows you what the Suwannee Room and its patrons look like now. Quite a contrast!

Neat! I'm glad their heritage has not gone totally forgotten. Women's Colleges were an important thing back in the day!!

great photos & interesting history. I like the contrast in the outfits - except for the hair, the modern one looks the same as in the late '70s. I've always had a likeing for women's colleges - I even applied to Smith C. although there was no chance my parents would let me leave LA area to go to college. (It must of been all the novels set in colleges for women that I read.)
Great shot and commentary. I can just imagine all those cute College for Women gals racing to Gainesville every weekend. (I'm certain that my mom and her KD girlfriends always behaved properly!)
