Close Call

Posted by Picasa

I had just walked past this area of Lake Ella the other day when I heard a loud noise. I turned around just in time to see this van barreling toward the lake. Just when I thought it was going into the water, it stopped right at the edge! It seems the driver was headed down a steep road that interesects with the road than runs around the lake and the brakes on the van failed. A truck was going by at the time and the van hit the back end of the truck, which probably slowed it down. Fortunately no people or ducks were injured in this mishap, but it sure was scary!

Tupelo Honey and Mayhaw Jelly

I'm not a big fan of honey, but I might have to go back and buy some of that jelly just to see what it tastes like!

Car, Motorcycle or Both?

Posted by Picasa

I spotted the driver of this vehicle in the Walmart parking lot the other day and he parked right in front of me and went inside. Lucky me--I had my camera! It was a little overcast and about to start raining, so I had to move quickly. I hope that guy didn't get wet on his way home, because I sure didn't see a top for this thing. Maybe he just puts on his raincoat.

Weekend Reflections--Taking Off

Posted by Picasa

I noticed this egret standing on that little raft in Lake Ella and just as I walked over to the edge of the lake to take his picture, he took off. To view other beautiful Weekend Reflections from around the world click here.

Conservation Area

Posted by Picasa

Believe it or not, this sign was posted behind the Target Store in Tallahassee. There is a beautiful wooded area with a pond behind the store and according to the sign, it is protected from development and trespassers by the owners of the store. You can click on the picture and enlarge to read what it says.

Floral Friday

This is my first time participating in Floral Friday! I'm not sure what kind of flowers these are, but I photographed them in the courtyard of my church last Sunday morning.

Please visit Floral Friday to enjoy more beautiful flowers!

This Means You!

One of my neighbors is pretty adamant about keeping people out of his yard. His house is back there behind those trees.

In Need of a Little Trim

Posted by Picasa

This is what happens to palm trees when they aren't pruned. I've been seeing these two beauties at the end of a driveway in my neighborhood for years and have always wondered why they don't cut those dead palm fronds off. They sort of look like they have beards or maybe they are wearing skirts!

Redneck Cul-De-Sac

Posted by Picasa

I saw this sticker on the back windshield of the car in front of me while I was waiting in traffic. The emblem seems to be a map of the state of Georgia with a Confederate flag covering it behind a deer head staring back at you. Interesting! You can enlarge it to get a better look.

Another Mushroom

Posted by Picasa

I'm not sure what this type of mushroom is called but several of them also popped up in my backyard after all the rain we had this past week. It may be a chanterelle or a jackolantern mushroom. I think the color is beautiful. If anyone can identify it for me, I would appreciate it!

Retiring in Style!

Posted by Picasa

One of the employees in the building where I work recently retired. She decided to hire a limo to pick her up after work on her last day. Her entire family was inside the limo waiting for her to come out. We all went outside to wave and watch her go. I might just have to do the same thing when I retire in 3 years!

SkyWatch Friday

This is what the sky looked like through my windshield as I drove home from work yesterday afternoon around 5pm. It's looked like this for most of the last week around here. I'm ready for some sunshine!

Canopy Road

Posted by Picasa

This sign is located at the turn off for Old Bainbridge Road headed into Tallahassee. It is a good idea to do as the sign says and go slow, not only because the road has some hills and curves with little or no shoulders, but it is also a beautiful drive and if you go slow, you can really enjoy all the beautiful trees growing alongside and over it forming the canopy. I posted another picture of Old Bainbridge Road a little further down from this sign here. Miccosukee Road is another canopy road in Tallahassee and you can see a picture of that road here.

Florida Lottery

This building is the headquarters of the Florida Lottery in downtown Tallahassee. You would head for this building to cash in your ticket if you hit it big. It's also nice that there is a car dealership located nearby for those winners who are impulse buyers.

I always say I wish I would win the lottery so I could retire early. The problem is I would have to buy a ticket!

Chrome Diva

Posted by Picasa

This lady was standing in front of us while we were waiting for the show to start at the Exotic Bird Fair. The emblem on her back says she's a member of the Chrome Divas, a national organization for women who love motorcycles. This organization was started in Tallahassee in 2002 and has chapters all over the United States, Canada and now Europe. They raise money for many worthy causes including breast cancer research. Visit their website for more information about this fascinating organization.

Smokin' Butts BBQ

Sometimes you just have to be thankful that you had your camera with you. This one really should be enlarged to get the full effect. Note the strategically placed sign! This was one of the food vendors at the Exotic Bird Fair.

Petting the Birds

It took him awhile to get brave enough, but right before we left the Exotic Bird Fair my grandson decided to pet the Macaws.

Bird Toys

Have you ever seen so many bird toys in your life? This was only about an eighth of what was on display at the Exotic Bird Fair.
