Spriggs-McNeill House

Posted by Picasa

Jerome McNeill, a professor of science at Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) had this home built for his family in 1903. It was later remodeled by Kent Spriggs, former mayor of Tallahassee, to use for his office. During last year's election, the house was used as the Obama Student Headquarters. This old house is located on College Avenue between the main gate of FSU and downtown and is currently for sale.

I hate it when these old homes go on the market! What do you think about Silver Slipper? That's a shame, been in the area for 71 years and at it's current location for 30!! I was born here, were you?

I hope whoever purchases it appreciates the beauty and heritage it brings. I would love to have seen it in it's full glory.

No, I was born in Jacksonville, but have lived here for 38 years. I can't believe the Slipper is gone. I know Jimmy Kalfas, but haven't seen him for a few years. It's so sad.

That's a very well-preserved old house. Can't say about ours here.

WoW! 1903? It looks like a really nice house - Has another family still not bought it, though? It should have a family in it w/ kids running around - not politics! hehehehe

I have great affection for these old houses, and I'm glad that this one has been kept in use.

Hopefully, someone will buy it and do whatever it takes to "restore" it and not tear it down.

Isn't it pretty! I would love to live in a house like this. A charming home like this deserves a charming owner.

Looks like a lovely place! I bet it is bigger than it looks.

It's so charming, at least on the exterior. Looks like it could use a bit of yard upkeep though... sweet porch!
