Redwood Forest

Entrance to the park.

These trees are tall!

A National Park Service ranger giving a talk about the trees.

My two oldest grandchildren ahead of me on one of the trails.

One of the first places we visited while we were staying in San Francisco was Muir Woods National Monument which is located about 11 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. We spent the morning walking among old growth coastal redwoods and enjoying the natural beauty of this amazing forest. The trails are well maintained and easy to walk on and even though there were quite a few people there during our visit, it was still quiet and peaceful as everyone seemed to be respectful and just as much in awe of these giant trees as we were. My photos really don't do this place justice. You have to see it in person. My grandson and I even saw a black tailed deer near one of the trails, but it was too quick for me to get a good photo.

I started to say "Where do you find this in Florida?" and then I remembered you went tripping in California. I was in the redwoods when I was a kid and I remember a huge tree you could drive through. Nice photos, Lois!

Great place to visit! The coastal redwoods are amazing both at Muir Woods and further north along the coast.

I'm so glad you shared this experience with us, Lois. They are truly a work of art. I can imagine the deer scampering among these majestic trees.

I've often travelled to or through California, but have yet to see the giant Redwoods. I hope I can see them some day. Meanwhile, your photos are wonderful.
