Budapest at night

Night view of Buda Castle across the Danube River from our hotel.

A closer view of St. Stephen's Basilica than the one I showed yesterday. The lighting is so beautiful.

The Chain Bridge with the same lion statue I showed yesterday.

Walking on the Chain Bridge is fun, especially at night. I took this photo looking out over the Danube River while standing on the bridge. Just right of center you can see the Liberty Statue monument on top of Gellért Hill. It commemorates those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom and prosperity of Hungary. That is the Elisabeth Bridge crossing the river just below it.

One of the first photos I took from the balcony of our cabin on the ship as we were leaving Budapest. You can see the Liberty Statue in this photo too, but the view is from the other direction. That is the Liberty Bridge just beneath it. On the riverbank to the left of the bridge is the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

I was able to zoom in on the Liberty Statue as we passed by on the ship.

I took this photo after our ship sailed under the Chain Bridge. That is Buda Castle again behind the bridge.

We also sailed past the beautiful Hungarian Parliament building on our way out of Budapest.

Underneath the Margaret Bridge.

Just past the bridge lies Margaret Island. This smaller bridge extending from the side of the Margaret Bridge provides access to the island from both sides of the Danube.

Budapest really lights up beautifully at night. I took the first four photos when we were still staying in our hotel and walking around at night. The last week of our vacation was spent on a relaxing Danube River cruise from Budapest to Regensberg, Germany and the last six photos were taken from our ship as we were leaving. If you have to leave Budapest, I think setting sail at night on the river through the center of the city when everything is lit so beautifully and reflected in the river is the way to go!

Good Lord, you've outdone yourself. Incredible night shots. Please tell me you used a tripod or monopod or window sill or something ... either that or you've got the steadiest hands I've ever seen. These would all look wonderful in a travel brochure! Great work, Lois!

Hi Lois, how is your cousin doing? How SCARY ABOUT THAT TREE limb crashing in like that, and your cousin with a grandchild right there too! Hope all is well and they can get the repair done correctly and quickly. That had to have been so scary. I'm glad you stopped by and liked the post with the dogs. I sure love to take pictures of dogs and cats!! Now I'm off to read your new post and look at your pictures---happy weekend my friend!

Hi again. I didn't realize you had adopted a kitten! They can be so much fun. Both of ours were rather afraid of human contact. Cleo has really come around but Cassie is still frightened of just about everything - after four years!
