Looking for dinner

This Little Blue Heron was stalking some dinner by a pond near my house. In the second photo, you can see it giving me a look like it didn't want me taking its picture, but then went right back to what it was doing. I had originally gone there because I heard there was an alligator hanging around the pond, but later found out that someone who lived in one of the houses that backs up to the pond had called the Nuisance Alligator Hotline and an alligator trapper contracted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had already removed it. There is a swampy area close to this pond, so it's probably only a matter of time before another alligator shows up.

Wonderful shots of this little heron. It really is giving you the "eye" in that 2nd shot, but must have decided you weren't much of a threat! Thanks for your very kind comment on Ocala! Much appreciated! Have a great weekend!

Oh my gosh, you really do have a Nuisance Alligator Hotline. I thought you were joking! :-)

he sure is giving you the eye... beautiful shot. yesterday we had a woman killed on our interstate, her suv hit an alligator that was crossing I-75 and rolled her car. a few hours later a young man on a motorcycle on one of our dark county roads hit an 11 foot gator and woke up in the hospital. he was unconcious and has no memory of what happened. they bay flighted him to Tampa and he will be ok. we are having big time problems with gators here with 300 relocated this year

Fantastic shots of the Blue Heron. Anyplace with an alligator nuisance hotline is not a place I'd want to be. :)

I have to admit that I would not go toward an alligator, photo op or not.

Well, I would be thankful it was removed. You are brave to even venture out looking for an alligator on the loose. We see them here, and I'm always leery. Great photos of the little blue. They're so pretty in coloration and you captured it well.

I do thank you so much for sharing this with us birders at I'd Rather B Birdin'...it's always a pleasure visiting!!

Goodness the water birds like the blue heron here would have to watch out Lois, you are braver than I re getting close to alligators 😊

Wow, you are very brave! I don't think most of us would go toward the alligator in the pond. I love watching blue herons.

You have three very good photos of this beautiful bird. Guess we all have to work to be fed.

Hello Lois!:) I'm so late with my comments, and trying to catch up, after a busy weekend. Lovely Heron shots,...it's a beautiful bird, that I would love to see in real time, ...but not an alligator. Take care Lois, there could be another lurking around!!
