Old ticket window
This picture shows one of the original ticket windows where you would have purchased tickets to an event at what used to be known as Centennial Field near downtown. Centennial Field opened in 1924 to celebrate Tallahassee's 100th birthday. It hosted political rallies, graduations, and other community events and served as the home field for Florida State University football and a semi-professional baseball team. It is no longer in existence, but some of its old walls are still standing and surround part of Cascades Park. You can see one of the lakes in the park and a fountain through the old ticket window. You can also see a picture of what the baseball park looked like back in the 1930's here.

The ticket window is telling its long history in the sunshine. I like the stone wall and love to see the fountain through the iron fence.
Have a good day.
Uma bela fotografia.
Um abraço e boa semana.

How awesome. I love posts like this showing us the area you live in with a bit of history...and the Lake Ella post that you published in your previous blog post....sweet image.
comme une prison
Funny picture, looking through the bars!
...for a moment Lois, I thought that you were in jail looking out. What a relief to know that you are not locked up! Thanks for sharing a bit of your local history this week, hope to see you again.
at first glance I thought it was part of an old jail. it is a beautiful photo and I always love all things rusty and rustic.
That's wonderful that "they" preserved some of what used to be. Love the stone. And I'd buy a ticket at that window anytime.
My post is about a Tallahassee landmark too.
Jail was my first thought also.
I love your creative shot of this historic place.
I'm reminded of barn foundation walls.
Looking through the ticket window the view of the park looks much prettier now than it did in the shot back then Lois. So good when these little touches of the past remain.
Great piece of preserved history! The stone wall is in good shape and I like the view of the fountain beyond!
Love the stone walls!
Great composition of this scene. There's a lot to see in it.
I'm glad that they left that wall, Lois!
