Even while I was on my vacation this summer, I could not pass up taking pictures that I knew would fit some of the memes I like to participate in on my blog. I took this one while eating lunch at a rest stop along the Autobahn on our way from Salzburg, Austria to Munich, Germany. We got caught up in that horrendous heat wave that gripped much of Europe this summer during the first part of our trip, but on this particular day, the weather had finally cooled off and we were able to enjoy our meal outside on a gloriously cool sunny day next to a playground and this little building with this cute mural. Translated it means "Take a rest", which we certainly did!

I took my grandkids on a day trip to see the Jim Woodruff Dam which impounds Lake Seminole and is located about 50 miles northwest of Tallahassee near the Florida-Georgia state line. This hydroelectric dam on the Apalachicola River is located about 1,000 feet south of the river's origin at the confluence of the Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers. The dam was named in honor of James W. Woodruff, Sr., a Georgia businessman who spearheaded the development of the project.

I had a great time traveling and spending time with my grandkids, but my busy summer is coming to an end and I'm excited to starting blogging again! I didn't have to go very far to get this picture. The utility pole at the end of my driveway is a favorite perch of the two red shouldered hawks I have living in my backyard. This one was screeching at me every time I walked out into my garage as I was packing for a trip with my grandkids a couple of weeks ago. I like having them around because they eat small rodents and snakes. The only problem is they are keeping most of the other small birds away that I enjoy watching.
