Rubbish Tuesday

Public phones used to be a common sight, but not so much anymore. This one has certainly seen better days! I took this picture through the windshield of my car while waiting at a traffic light. It is located across the street from the current homeless shelter, so that could explain why the phone is still there. A new shelter is currently under construction and you can find out more about it here. Linking to Rubbish Tuesday.

It still has a handset, I'd say this one is a survivor.

I haven't seen a phone booth in several years. The one and only pay phone in this town was removed about 7 years ago. Nice find!

That is a rare sight today. I actually found one in Phoenix outside an apartment complex that houses very low income people.

No room in there for Clark Kent to change into costume, I see.

We still have them, but the numbers have continued to be reduced dramatically.

All our public phone now have free Wi Fi for everybody, so you nearly always see people sitting nearby using the free conection. The phones are not used much everyone has a cell phone.

The last one of these I've seen in Ocala was in the downtown square and used mostly by itinerants. But I'm not sure if that's even there anymore. Times sure have changed since we were "younger," haven't they?

Payphones have all but disappeared from my neck of the woods. About 13 years ago they could still be found here and there, but cell phones have pretty much taken over!
