Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day here in the U.S. and I am proud to say that my father served in the United States Navy during World War II. I still have his 1944 edition of The Bluejackets' Manual and the Servicemen's World War Map he carried with him during his service.

My two German great-grandfathers and one of my French great-grandfathers died in WWI. My other French great-grandfather was wounded in WWI.
My French grandfather and my German were POWs in WWII. I am the product of European and more specifically franco-german peace...

Somewhere in a box I have yet to open, it a group of artifacts from my grandfather. One I know I have is a ration book with ration stamps inside.

Yes, you should be proud! This is wonderful. My uncle also served in WW II and I've always been proud of him.

I wonder if the next generation will value these family mementos as we do.
