Shadow of a Tree Stump

Since the city of Tallahassee has a very strict tree ordinance, I'm assuming this tree was not in good shape when it was cut down. I'm glad they left the stump though. I took this picture in the newly opened Cascades Park downtown. Linking to Shadow Shot Sunday.

Even in rural Maine the laws are strict about removing trees.

I've been wondering what to do with some of these in our yard. Frankly, I'm stumped.

They do make cool benches, though!

It always makes me sad to see a tree cut down. They have grown so many years....

The stump looks visually amazing.

There was a massive tree near where I lived before here, thought to be two or three hundred years old. They brought it down after concluding it had been dead for some years. A carver has thus far made two sculptures out of the wood.

It offers a very good place to sit and enjoy watching life go past.

I like the idea of making the stump a bench. Poor tree but very nice shadows!

Yes, the laws around our town are pretty strict about cutting trees down even on your own property. We found out the hard way!!! I am a tree lover but when the tree is almost dead from old age it is best to cut it down and replace it with a couple of new ones!!! Nice photo!

I agree Lois, at least this once magnificent tree is not lost forever! Goodness it must have been huge!
