The first night we were in Chicago, my daughter and I ate at Harry Caray's and both the food and service were fantastic. Here are a couple of shots I took inside the restaurant when we were leaving. The cow in the second shot is a tribute to Harry Caray's famous exclamation "Holy Cow!" which, according to his autobiography, he trained himself to use in order to avoid any chance of using profanity on the air while broadcasting baseball games. I lived in St. Louis from age 12 - 18 in the 1960's when Harry Caray was the Cardinals broadcaster, before his career in Chicago. He was legendary in St. Louis as well. People loved him, and he was like a part of everyone's family.
He had his home run call already well developed before he started with the Cubs. "There is a long drive to left field. That ball might be out of here. It could be. IT IS! A HOME RUN! HOLY COW!"
Harry Caray was the Cardinal's announcer for many years before he went to Chicago. Legend has it that he had an affair with Auggie Busch's wife and had to leave town! When he went to Chicago, he still had significant business interests in St. Louis, and I was his personal assistant in St. Louis for a time. It was pretty crazy!
That is a nice story about the reporter!
looks like a fun place to eat. i really like that cow! how funny that he had to train himself to say that ;)
Just LOVE that "holey" cow!

Holy Cow!
Vintage SNL shows do a great 'take' on the HC caricature, glasses, voice and all.
This place looks cute and fun!
I've never heard of him that I can recall. But, Holy Cow! I'm sure I'd like his restaurant!
That is some cow!
This place would be Mecca for baseball fans, especially Cubs fans. Nice photos! I enjoyed the commentary from Dave and Cathy. Don't we learn a lot on these blogs?
