When I was a kid, we always called these little dragonflies mosquito hawks. They also come in green, but I'm a little partial to the blue ones. To see more fascinating critters from all over the place, visit Camera Critters.

lol...I used to call them choppers. Nice shot!
I don't think I have ever seen a blue dragonfly. I guess even dragonflies have mothers.
Happy Mothers Day, Lois.
Have a delightful day

Léia and little Luna
Great blue!
That a nice pic. I used to be afraid of them when I was a kid. Maybe because they are so big.
They were just dragonflies to me. There were so many bugs where I grew up, we kids didn't have the time to create new names for all of them. Happy Mother's Day, Lois.
I love the blue dragonflies -- they're so pretty. I've never heard them called mosquito hawks before. That's funny.
Kids! Always making funny names for things.
Mosquito hawks sounds quite frightening! Very pretty blue dragonfly :D
Happy Mother's Day to you!
Happy Mama's Day, Lois! Hope you enjoyed brunch!
Very nice! Hard to capture these critters...I got a shot of a red dragonfly down in south Florida! Strange-looking!
Hope you're having a wonderful Mom's Day!
Happy Mother's Day, Lois. I too remember mosquito hawks--great post!
Dear Lois, I hope you had a splendid Mother's Day! What a fine specimen you've capture here. The blue is so vivid and unusual.
