SkyWatch Friday
Look closely and you will see the mockingbird, which also happens to be Florida's state bird, serenading me as I walked under this beautiful old oak tree near downtown Tallahassee. He is almost the same color as the Spanish moss. To see more beautiful skies from around the world, please visit SkyWatch Friday.

Such a wonderful shot! The skies are sooooo blue! Love the bird and the moss is lovely hanging from the tree! Hope you have a great weekend!

Nice shot!
I like the colors in this shot...the green is, well, very green and the sky is very blue and the mockingbird is perfect for Florida's state bird considering the state of Florida's politics...heh, heh!
How romantic! Beautiful sky peaking in through the branches. Happy weekend :)
Good one! It is so hard to get a good shot of a mockingbird.
A cute little thing. I'll be posting a bird photo or two here real soon.
I'm glad you pointed out the bird or I would have missed it completely! You already know what I feel about your old oaks and Spanish moss. :)
Good sky shot.

Nice contribution to SWF, Lois!
I had to do To Kill a Mocking Bird was my English text book when I waas 15. I always wonder why this bird is called as such.
It must be terrible growing up without a mum. Thanks for sharing. I have learned that a bereavement of a loved one means a puzzle piece is taken away. Life will never be the same.
Mum was 60 and I was in my early 30s. I am lucky I had her for so many extra years than you.
I made your photo bigger and then I saw him sitting there among the beautiful green leaves:)
Thank you for sharing,
have a nice weekend,
from Kate in Northern Norway:)
Fantastic shot. That is a beautiful bird.
caught him, nice swf pic.
Nice capture. A couple years ago the kids voted at school to change the State Bird. Do you know anything about it? I can't remember now.
This is lovely, Lois!
Darla--I did a little research about your question and yes it is true that Florida's school kids voted to change the state bird to the osprey, but only the Florida legislature has the power to actually make this happen and they did not follow through on it.
They are singing up a storm down this way.
You did a great job capturing that mockingbird. You entire photo is very nice.
He's also the Mississippi state bird. Although I am not too fond of them, they can be quite agressive!
They do sing nice songs on occasion though.
PS: The Spanish moss is gorgeous!
Lois, you are such a bird lover:) Leave it to you to spot that Mocking bird surrounded by all that Spanish Moss.
I had to enlarge it to see the bird. Awesome photo!
Well Pam, I actually heard him before I saw him. He really was singing up a storm! They do have beautiful songs. I have heard that sometimes they will imitate things like cell phones ringing. I guess that's why they are called mockingbirds!
I see the bird and I like the sky and the wonderful moss!
We have no mockingbirds here - but we have a stellar jay who thinks he's a frog, a hawk, and a robin. Depends on his mood, I think.
I love your picture. The way my eyes went from massive tree branch dripping with spanish moss - to the leaves, then to the bird. Beautiful!
The first thing I thought looking at this tree was: Spanish moss! I have learned something...
Then I saw the mockingbird, and now I envy you!
Beautiful image, perfectly framed, with a lovely surprise.
A lovely photo with the dappled leaves and soft edges of the moss. Good colour contrast with the blue sky too. How lucky to be walking in such a lovely place hearing the song of the birds.
Cheers.
